In Georgia, the number of hit-and-run car accidents is on the rise. Statistics show that about one in every five vehicle crashes in the state involves a hit-and-run driver. This is why Georgia has taken the offense of hit-and-run or leaving the scene (of an accident) very seriously.

Georgia Aims To Expand Highway Safety Efforts

In the past three months, ten people have been killed along the I-16 near Savannah, Georgia in chain-reaction crashes (pile-ups), most of them involving large semi-trucks. In an effort to deter and catch dangerous drivers as well as prevent future fatal collisions, Governor Deal has publicly announced that there will be a significant increase in the number of highway safety officers on Georgia roadways.

Distracted Driving Is Dangerous

There is no question that driving distracted is dangerous. For this reason, Georgia law prohibits all drivers from texting on their cell phones when behind the wheel. Moreover, young drivers under the age of 18 cannot use a wireless communication device of any kind while driving. This is because cell phone use is one of the leading causes of distracted driving.
