How do you know if you are eligible for SSD benefits?

For most individuals in Georgia, they do not plan for tragedy to happen to them. However, many are aware that the unexpected does occur. Because of that, it is very common for individuals to purchase various insurance policies. Whether it is damage to a home, an automobile accident or a major health problem, these policies help address the financial pitfalls caused by the matter. However, what can one do if they are seriously injured and no longer able to work.

Social Security disability was designed to help those unable to work because of disabling injury or illness. However, in order for eon to qualify for these benefits, he or she must meet the definition of disability as outline by the Social Security Administration. The SSA defines disability as a medical condition that is expected to last for at least one year or end in their death. And, as a result, he or she is unable to work because of the disabling condition.

How do you know if you are eligible for SSD benefits? To begin, the disability must be more than something temporary or short-term. Next, he or she must be suffering from a qualifying condition. This could be a physical or psychological condition or illness. No matter the type of disability one is suffering from, a person’s abilities will be assessed when determining if they qualify. This typically includes their ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, reach, communicate, use judgment and respond to supervision.

Proving that one is suffering from a disabling condition can be challenging. While it may be clear that one is living with a disabling condition, other factors may not be so clear. Thus, applicants seeking SSD benefits need to ensure they have proper documentation and evidence to prove they qualify for these benefits.
