It’s hard to watch TV without encountering a cellphone commercial, as these devices are very appealing and used widely by residents in Georgia and other states across the nation. While these are very popular and reliable forms of technology, they do not hold a place in all environments. Using a cellphone while driving is not only dangerous but is deemed distracting. When it comes to distracted driving, the state of Georgia has taken active steps to help reduce the number of car accidents cased by drivers using their phone while driving.
Over six months ago, the state of Georgia passed a” hands free” law. This law states that drivers cannot drive while using a cellphone in their hands; however, they are allowed to use a hands free option to talk on the phone. During its short lifespan, some believe that this law has done little to impact the behavior of drivers with regards to their cell phone use.
It as reported that since the law came into effect, law enforcement have issued thousands of citations after they were caught violating the hands free law. This law bans drivers from holding any electronic device while driving. The idea is that a driver will not be able to send a text, read an email, watch a movie or search the Internet while driving. Based on the citation reports, it is apparent that drivers are still using their cell phones while driving, driving distracted and creating hazards on the roadways.
