When distractions are present, dangerous car accidents occur

On any given day, Georgia residents may face any number of driving conditions that will test their ability to stay safe on the road. It may be weather that throws rain, sleet or wind into the path of the driver’s automobile. It could be traffic or other vehicles that require a driver to slow down, maneuver and keep safe while operating the car, truck or sport utility vehicle. Accidents between other cars, broken-down vehicles and a number of other road hazards can put challenges and delays in the path of a Bremen driver.

However, despite all of these issues that a driver may encounter, there is a big threat that many drivers allow to impair their own operating skills and put themselves and others in harm’s way. Distracted driving occurs when a driver allows a non-driving task to hold his or her attention while operating a motor vehicle.

Distracted driving takes a driver’s eyes off of the road and places the focus on something else. That something else can be practically anything, but a common source of distracted driving occurs when a driver looks at a smart phone. Whether checking an address, writing a text message or trying to dial a telephone number, drivers suffer major distractions when they use their smart phones in their cars.

It may be clear to readers how very dangerous distracted driving can be. In only a matter of seconds, drivers may run into another car or drive through a traffic signal, putting themselves and others in the path of danger. Drivers who allow distractions to affect their operating skills can often be held liable for the harm they cause; legal claims based on personal injuries from distracted driving car accidents can be compensable for victims.
